Fading Traditions
When it comes to culture and traditions, the main questions that come up is whether sticking to family culture is a good or a bad thing. My personal thought on this matter is that it is neither. I don't believe that a person should stick and follow his or her family's traditions. Then again, I don't believe that a person should instantly reject own past history, culture, and traditions. It all should depend on the situation that the person is in. What would be the best. Although, I think it could be a very good thing if someone decides to stick with his or her own culture and decides to life by it. The movie project we just had, is a great example regarding this topic. In movie "America East," a family which moved from Middle East, struggles here in America between keeping their own culture and believes, or living on what will be best for them as human beings trying to be happy and successful. When a family moves here from another country, allot of issues come up when culture limits a person. This prevents people from doing something which might be fun, or interesting. Therefore I think a person should think wisely and consider the situation and make a decisions if it would be best to abandon own culture and family believes, or to change one self and live a different way which might be more normal by current community standards. People tend to have unconscious felling toward what is normal and what is abnormal, there is a system which defines it. For example the essay “Cinderella” by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, it is shown that human brain will automatically most likely consider themselves as the poor and unlucky ones. I believe that the message in this essay includes that a person might focus on the negative things going on in their life, like Cinderella was focusing that she is working more than other's and thinking of herself as the unfortunate one. But one day there will be a time when the hard working and unfortunate one, will be better than others and will rise to levels of which other people never thought he or she would be at. The fact is that if a person stands back from all the activity going on in their life and thinks beyond the obvious and what seems to be truth, the bigger picture can be seen and things that matter in life might get changed after evaluation of what is important and what is not.
